But when he took his seat at the table, this writer lightly swatted him with a notebook, and scolded him for the look-over-the-shoulder paranoia caused by his role in the critically-acclaimed flick The Road. “You thought I will just jump out of dark corners and chase you, didn’t you?” Alden teases. To explain: His role in the Yam Llaranas movie that will be shown at a major US theater on May 9, is that of a psycho-killer who preys on hapless girls and beats them to death. Looking at his bulk, one can truly believe that he is capable of such a dastardly deed. His bedimpled mestizo face is charming, but his muscular biceps indicate that he can definitely do some damage, if needed.
His acting chops for the role were innate, as he reveals that he didn’t get a special workshop for what he calls his Johnny Depp-ish “dream role” (He consulted with directors, co-actors, and coaches on the right way to “attack” the character.) but the physique is a product of hard work. “I have a trainer in my gym in Laguna, where I have a regular upper body workout. I don’t work on my legs yet, because hindi pa naman nakikita, and I am a little lazy for that now. But I will get to it eventually,” he grins.
The bane of actors with regular work is the grueling hours. But he accepts it as part of the job. “I grab sleep whenever I can, like in the car or on the set. I also make sure to take my vitamins, go to the gym whenever I have time, drink a lot of fluids, and eat right. I believe that you are what you eat. I love vegetables -- except for ampalaya, and I have stayed away from rice for about six months now. Instead, I eat more complex carbs like pasta and bread.” His chow down food of choice is burgers. “I am a burger guy! I diet six days a week, and I make Wednesday my ‘cheat’ day. That’s when I eat a lot of burgers – and steaks.” At which point he acts out a gasp at the thought of a big juicy steak in front of him.
The unmistakable result of all that self-control is his endorsement of the Folded and Hung Line, where he has a billboard and store posters that have his abs in full view. And part of that self-control he owes to the discipline he learned from sports. Before becoming a celebrity, Alden was into basketball and running, and was even part of his school’s badminton varsity team. “But since I entered showbiz, I haven’t had the time to play,” he shakes his head ruefully.
For someone who looks excruciatingly good, Alden (currently cast in the Kapuso teleserye "My Beloved") is not Zoolander-vain. “There are bad days too… days when you look haggard, or have eye bags, or a pimple. You just haveto chill. It’s normal, tao tayo. It’s not the case that because you are a celebrity, you have to be over-conscious about it. Having those simply means that you need to find more time for yourself.” His skincare, as an example, is very basic. “I just use an astringent and a facial wash. My managers have been on me to get some kind of kit, but that would mean having to wake up earlier just to apply things on my face. I’d rather get more sleep.” As for his clothing, he says that he is very happy that Folded and Hung has shorts – because they’re sort of his thing.
His needs are pretty basic too, as he reveals that he is quite practical with his earnings. “I don’t buy gadgets. Most of them are gifts, and I am really thankful for them.” One of his big ticket purchases is a car –and a second-hand one at that -- which he uses to travel from Laguna to Manila every time he has work. “I am really not a materialistic person. I am actually tight with money, and I put my earnings in the bank. When I am thinking about eating in a five-star restaurant, for example, I analyze that the money I will spend could go to gas or paying for toll fees. Kung kaya naman mabusog on a smaller budget, dun na lang ako.”
He prioritizes his family over anything else, especially since his mom passed away when he was in third year high school. He would like to go back to school someday and get a degree, but says that will have to wait until his sister is done. “I am helping her with her studies now, and after five years, it will be my turn. Before I entered showbiz, I wanted to be a pilot. Now, I think I want to be an astronaut, because there are no Filipinos who have gone into space yet!”
One more thing about Alden (who make it a point to go to church on his free days) is that he doesn’t let negativity get in his way. “There will always be people who will try to put you down. Sometimes, this industry is really not fair. But if you are on the right track, nobody can knock you out.” The Road star continues, “Showbiz is like a very long highway, and there are many dark places on it. You just need to pray and focus on what you want. That will be your way to avoid distractions… And this is my goal, this is my dream, this is what I want.” By MAAN D’ASIS PAMARAN, Contributor of Manila Bulletin.

For Dex Quindoza, the best way to put his tatoo is on the shoulder and chest. These shoulder and chest tattoos often resemble the design style of those on the lower back as many seen, as both tend to have the same interesting artistic swing. Nice Dex.

This 24-year old charming and conservative hunk comes from a well-off and prominent family in Cebu. He has appeared in several magazines in Cebu and has been dubbed as "one of the faces to watch for in 2011". He just finished intensive acting workshop under Pen Medina. For me, he is the sexiest pinoy big brother winner.
